How Can I Help Avoid Clogged Drains?
You would be surprised to see the things we’ve pulled out of residential drains. Or maybe you wouldn’t be! Whatever the case may be, the team at Jon’s would like to help you prevent drain cleaning problems in the first place by sharing a list of items you should never put down your drains or sinks. These items include:
- Grease and oil
- Eggshells
- Coffee grounds
- Vegetable peels
- Stringy vegetables
- Pasta and other sticky starches
- Plastic
- Feminine hygiene products
Other items that can cause drain clogs are soap scum buildup, toothpaste, toilet paper, mineral buildup, cosmetic products and hair.
Our Plans of Attack
We approach the process of cleaning out your drain in a number of ways, depending on how severe the clog is. They include:
- A drill-activated or handheld snake. These snakes, which can reach up to 25 feet, are often used for less serious clogs near the toilet or sink basin.
- An electric-powered snake. This snake, which can reach up to 100 feet, is fed down your drain until it reaches the clog. Once it’s in position, it’s rotating, bladed head attacks and destroys the clog. This tool is very effective for most household plumbing blockages and cutting pesky tree roots.
- A high-definition, digital, inspection camera. This camera is useful to inspect the interior of your drain line to help diagnose the problem, confirm that the blockage was successfully cleared, and locate drain lines underground or under your basement floor.
- Hydrojetting. Hydrojetting is a powerful approach to attack grease, grime and other stubborn clogs. It uses high-pressure water to 1) break apart the blockage and 2) scrub the pipe clean.
